Saudi King Salman has invited Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi for a state visit, according to information from Tehran. The deputy director of the main office, Muhammad Jamshidi, explained TwitterThe king welcomed the recent agreement to restore diplomatic relations between the two countries and invited the president to Riyadh. Raisi accepted the invitation, stressing Iran’s readiness to expand cooperation between the two countries. The date of the planned visit was not initially set.

Iran and Saudi Arabia want to resume diplomatic relations after seven years of the Ice Age. As a first step, it was decided to hold a meeting of the foreign ministers of the competing countries at the beginning of the month, which will be held soon. Sunni Saudi Arabia and Shiite-majority Iran have not maintained diplomatic relations in recent years. Both countries are struggling for political and military influence in the region.
